From the Journal of Syrra Coventry, High Sentinel --

It's been a long road from the lands of Quel'Thalas to the forests of Ashenvale to the great kingdom of Gilneas, but so much of that is behind me now. I have come full circle to being what I was born to be, though the journey took me to the far-flung corners of this world and beyond.

When the full measure of my birthright was finally discovered, I had not an inkling that it would bring me to lead the Duskhaven Sentinels. When I first was granted entrance to the kingdom and past the Greymane Wall, the land seemed so strange, yet so familiar and comforting. That was nothing compared to the feelings that rushed over me when I saw the sleepy villages and hamlets of this realm and first laid eyes on the grandeur of Greymane Manor, high on a hill overlooking the vast expanse of Gilneas City as well as Duskhaven.

Once I discovered my true roots were here in Gilneas, I more fully understood the calling that brought me here, but that is for another time. This discovery, as some may know by now, didn't come without peril.

As the hours wore on, I found out the true reason for Gilneas' silence beyond the Wall all these years. An affliction has swept the kingdom, and control inside the borders is fleeting. The king had been working to regain some semblance of control, thus The Guard was born. Each township, village, and hamlet has a secular contingent of The Guard, as does each district of Gilneas City. Each Guard is run as a separate entity, operating under coordination of their Commanders and Genn Greymane himself.

The purpose of The Guard is to help maintain not only order, but to aid in fostering peace and cooperation between the people. The changes in the kingdom, the infection ravaging the land, has caused many divides among the people and The Guard tries to bridge those gaps, acting as liaisons between the people while at all times presenting all the best virtues of the Crown.

I knew that the only way to establish myself as one who belonged here was to join The Guard and I was promptly accepted and put into the Duskhaven contingent. As things deteriorated in the kingdom, many of the senior officers just...disappeared. Though there was still a great deal of mistrust, I was reluctantly promoted through the ranks, as I had brought with me a fresh enthusiasm for the work ahead. I quickly began to regain order among the ranks and add to the core tenets of our branch of The Guard.

When it was clear that we couldn't wholly count on the other contingents due to the infection, as well as renewed efforts by the undead to breach The Wall and the thinning of the ranks to deal with that situation, there was only one thing to do.

I and the other officers began a reorganization of our contingent, setting them apart from the other Guard. The members were to consider themselves a part of a unique force for Gilneas; one that had a higher calling and that expected exemplary attitude and efforts from its members. Thus we broke from the standard Guard to become the Duskhaven Sentinels. Our commander assured the king that for all intents and purposes, we still hold the same tenets as the original Guard, but we intend to go to the ends of the world if necessary to assist the king and the people of Gilneas in whatever way possible, even if that means recruiting from outside the kingdom for assistance.

He approved of our charter almost immediately when he saw the renewed vigor in our Commander's eyes and the conviction of loyalty to the Crown and Banner of Gilneas as well as all its people. In a furtherance of that, the Sentinels adopted a new banner to fly alongside that of the kingdom...the crossed scythes. A representation of the people taking up arms and organizing to protect their king, neighbors, and way of life.

Many things are afoot in the kingdom, and around the world. I will endeavor to expand on the course of our people as developments warrant.
